Aryna Sabalenka determined to hold on to World No. 1 ranking

Iga Swiatek has not played any competitive match since her shocking loss to Jessica Pegula at the US Open. The 23-year-old withdrew from the entirety of the Asian swing. She parted ways with her long-term coach Tomasz Wiktorowski and almost two weeks later partnered with Naomi Osaka’s ex-coach Wim Fissette.

The Polish star eventually lost the World No.1 position to Aryna Sabalenka recently. Having claimed the number 1 spot, the Belarusian is determined to hold on to it with the year soon coming to a close.

I’ve always been saying that for me it’s about finishing the year as the world number one. I’ll do everything I can to finish the year as world number one.

Swiatek will open her WTA Finals campaign against Barbora Krejcikova on November 3. After that, she will play Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula, respectively, as she aims to win the title.
