Roger Federer has stepped back into the tennis spotlight with some publicity events at the Laver Cup and he took some time in his media duties to offer advice to the stars of tomorrow.

Federer is in Berlin to play a prominent role in a Laver Cup event he helped to devise before he chose the London edition of the tournament to call time on his tennis career back in 2022.

As well as launching a new Wilson racket and playing with the black frame on the Laver Cup court, he spoke to the media about his experiences coming through the ranks in tennis, as he suggested young players need to take responsibility for their own careers rather than take advice from too many outsiders.

“If I had to give any advice to juniors, it would be that you are 50 per-cent that coach as well,” said Federer.

“Yes, you are going to have your people, your parents and your coach. They are all going to tell you what to do.

“But at some point, you are going to be alone on court and you have to remember what you think is right because only you know that maybe your knee is hurting or that your mind to travelling or your forehand isn’t working.

“So you have to be able to figure it out yourself. No one else can fix it for you at that moment.

“I did that well when I was growing up. I knew I had to take responsibility. It’s your fault if you win and your fault if you lose.
