Camila Giorgi played the last match of her professional career in March of last year. Her opponent? Iga Świątek. The clash in Miami ended in a dominant triumph for the Pole: 6–1, 6–1. After this defeat, the 33-year-old Italian bid farewell to professional tennis and moved to Argentina. As it turns out, she’ll soon be seen in a completely new role.

Originally from Macerata, Giorgi was once ranked in the WTA Top 30. She won four WTA Tour titles, the most recent in 2023 in Mérida. However, she never achieved significant success at Grand Slam events. Her best result came in 2018 when she reached the Wimbledon quarterfinals.

At the beginning of 2024, she had already fallen outside the Top 100 and was no longer able to compete on equal footing with the top players. She was defeated by the likes of Maria Sakkari, Victoria Azarenka, and – notably – Poland’s Iga Świątek. As it turned out, the match against Świątek marked the end of her professional career. Giorgi’s decision to retire came as a major surprise.
