Camila Giorgi’s sudden retirement from tennis has taken another bizarre twist.
The 32-year-old Italian, a 2018 Wimbledon quarterfinalist who was once ranked as high as No. 26 in the world, has been accused by her landlord in Calenzano, Tuscany, of not paying rent for six months and stealing furniture as she bolted for the United States.
Giorgi retired earlier this month to pursue a career in lingerie modeling, Marca previously reported.
The landlord said he had contact with Giorgi’s father, who reportedly also ran off to the U.S. along with Giorgi’s mother Claudia and her brothers, Leandro and Amadeus.
“I wrote to him that they must at least give us back our things, he responded in a contemptuous way saying that they were objects of little value,” the landlord claims. “A hateful behavior, for those like me who have suffered economic but also emotional damage.

“To my lovely fans, I am happy to formally announce retirement from my tennis career. I am so grateful for your wonderful love and support for so many years.
