Meeting her Idol: Mirra Andreeva’s Special Moment with Andy Murray at Roland Garros

After dubbing herself “too shy” to talk to her idol, the 17-year-old mustered up the courage in Paris to ask for a snapshot to remember.

Paris, the City of Light … and the city where dreams come true, at least if you’re Mirra Andreeva. On the eve of Roland Garros, the 17-year-old (and, as we’ve established, the WTA’s biggest Andy Murray fan) finally mustered up enough courage to ask the former world No. 1 to take a picture with her.

Andreeva posted the photo to her Instagram story on Friday, much to the delight of tennis fans on social media
In the caption, the youngster, who reached the third round in Paris last year in her debut, called her return this year already “so far, so good.”
Andreeva’s endearing hero-worship Murray, whom she’s called an idol, was one of the hallmarks of her prodigious pro-level debut in 2023: She famously dubbed the Scot “so beautiful” upon first laying eyes on him in person at the Mutua Madrid Open.
Later last year, at Wimbledon, Andreeva finally met Murray, but said she was “too shy” to strike up a conversation. “When I see him I try to leave the facility super quick, just to not have to talk to him!” she said. What a difference a year makes.
