Tennis Legend Chris Evert Hails Mirra Andreeva as a ‘Superstar’ After Impressive French Open Win

Mirra Andreeva caused one of the biggest upsets of the season as she beat world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka to reach the semi-finals of the French Open. The 17-year-old will next face Jasmine Paolini, who will also be competing in her first Grand Slam semi-final, and Chris Evert and Mats Wilander both had plenty of praise for Andreeva. The women’s semi-finals take place on Thursday June 6.

Chris Evert said she “always thought” Mirra Andreeva would be a “superstar” after her stunning win over Aryna Sabalenka in the French Open quarter-finals.

Over the last year, Andreeva has made the fourth round at the French Open, Wimbledon and Australian Open. She has also broken into the top 30 in the world as she has furthered her status as one of the most exciting youngsters in women’s tennis.

“I always thought she was going to be a superstar when I saw her last year at the French Open winning a set from Coco [Gauff] and she showed us why she is so good at 17,” said former world No. 1 Evert on Eurosport.

Aged 17, Andreeva is the youngest woman to reach a Grand Slam semi-final since Martina Hingis in 1997.
Andreeva will next meet 12th seed Jasmine Paolini, who pulled off another upset win with victory over fourth seed Elena Rybakina.
