This Was the Moment It All Changed: Inside the Growing Rift Between Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham

Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham were once the definition of brotherly love – bonded by childhood memories and a shared spotlight as the sons of global icons David and Victoria Beckham.

But their relationship has reportedly crumbled in recent years, with insiders pointing to a specific moment: Brooklyn’s wedding to actress Nicola Peltz in 2022.

The extravagant Florida ceremony, said to have cost £3 million, was meant to be a joyful family affair. But sources close to the family now claim the nuptials marked the beginning of a serious rift between the Beckham brothers – a rift that has only widened in the years since.

According to people familiar with both sides, trouble began when Nicola allegedly gave the cold shoulder to Mia Regan, Romeo’s then-girlfriend of three years.

Despite Mia being a guest and part of the wedding party due to Romeo’s role as best man, Nicola reportedly refused to engage with her, causing tension that Romeo found deeply upsetting.

“The wedding was the turning point for Romeo,” one source said. “He is a lovely, lovely lad who found all the drama unnecessary.”

Romeo, described by insiders as driven and grounded, was said to be “enraged” by how Mia was treated, especially as she had been a steady presence in both his life and the Beckham household.

The Beckham family, particularly David and Victoria, were said to be stunned by Nicola’s conduct, calling it “absolutely baffling.”

Some observers have speculated that Nicola viewed Mia as a potential distraction from her moment in the spotlight – a claim underscored by her decision to avoid Mia during the entire wedding weekend.

“Imagine being Mia, who is just a normal girl, at this wedding which was fully controlled by Nicola and her very wealthy family,” said a source. “It must have been so uncomfortae then, the brothers’ relationship has deteriorated. “Brooklyn and Romeo have been fighting for a significant amount of time. They do not get on,” said a family source. “Things have been terrible for a long time.”

Brooklyn, once close to his family, has distanced himself significantly – reportedly choosing Nicola’s side in every disagreement, even when it puts him at odds with his parents and siblings.

Most recently, he and Nicola skipped David Beckham’s 50th birthday celebrations, prompting widespread concern within the family. Romeo took the lead at those events, giving speeches that Brooklyn might once have delivered.

Efforts to maintain peace have faltered. Though Nicola and Mia both attended a Yves Saint Laurent party at Paris Fashion Week in 2023 and appeared at the premiere of David’s Netflix documentary, Beckham, observers noted the interactions were strained at best.

Adding fuel to the fire, Nicola allegedly claimed Romeo’s current girlfriend, Kim Turnbull, was the reason she and Brooklyn didn’t attend David’s birthday, citing past history between Kim and Brooklyn.

However, those close to the family clarified that Kim actually dated Rocco Ritchie, not Brooklyn – a detail publicly corrected by Cruz Beckham in a now-deleted Instagram post. A family friend added, “Romeo and Cruz are still very close.”

For David and Victoria, the ongoing tension between their eldest sons has been heartbreaking. The situation reportedly reminds David of his own fallout with his father, Ted Beckham, after a book Ted wrote in 2005.

The two didn’t speak for two years but reconciled after Ted suffered a heart attack in 2007 – something friends hope might inspire a future resolution.

“David is the ultimate peacemaker – he and Victoria accept that these things happen in families,” said a source close to the couple. “They just hope that one day they can get their son back – like Ted got David back.”
