King Charles III has arrived in Ottawa for a brief but significant visit, marking his first official trip to Canada since ascending to the throne.

Accompanied by Queen Camilla, the 76-year-old monarch touched down on May 26 for a whirlwind 24-hour visit.

The royal couple’s arrival was met with a guard of honor from the Royal Canadian Dragoons and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. They were greeted by Governor General Mary Simon and Prime Minister Mark Carney.

Their first stop was Lansdowne Park, where they interacted with the public and participated in a ceremonial puck drop at a youth hockey game. Later, at Rideau Hall, King Charles planted a commemorative tree and met with representatives from the King’s Trust Canada.

Queen Camilla is also scheduled to be sworn into the Canadian Privy Council during this visit.

The highlight of the visit is the state opening of Canada’s 45th Parliament on May 27, where King Charles will deliver the Speech from the Throne.

This marks only the second time in Canadian history that a reigning monarch has opened Parliament, the first being Queen Elizabeth II in 1957.

While the royal visit is a diplomatic endeavor, it comes amid ongoing tensions within the royal family. Prince Harry, who resides in California, has expressed a desire for reconciliation with his father.

In a recent BBC interview, Harry lamented that King Charles has not responded to his attempts at communication, citing unresolved security issues as a barrier to mending their relationship.
