Djokovic may have won 24 Grand Slam titles and 40 Masters titles in a spectacular career so far – but an Olympic gold medal has so far proved elusive.
The Serbian had to settle for bronze at the Games in 2008, and he was defeated in the singles bronze medal match by Pablo Carreno Busta in Tokyo.
And the 36-year-old – who has been drawn against Australia’s Matthew Ebden in the first round of the singles – admits winning gold has always been a career aspiration.
“I said it many times in the past. I mean, that’s definitely one of the biggest dreams,” he said.
“Approaching the Olympic Games is always a huge challenge for me because I put extra expectations and pressure on myself and of course, the nation as well.
“Roland Garros is somewhere I played just two months ago, so I know those courts very well. “I’m hoping I can perform at my best and get to the medal match.”
