Carlos Alcaraz is three from three at the Paris Olympics! After two wins two days ago, Carlos faced Tallon Griekspoor in the singles second round on Monday. The Spaniard scored a 6-1, 7-6 victory on Court Philippe-Chatrier, saving a set point in set number two and sealing the deal without playing a decider.
Thus, Alcaraz joined the other favorites in the third round, extending his remarkable streak at notable events after Roland Garros and Wimbledon. The young gun defended his second serve superbly and faced only two break points, including that set point at 4-5.
He defended them and stole the rival’s serve two times in the opening set. Griekspoor outplayed Alcaraz behind the first serve, but it was not enough to keep him in contention despite a decent effort in set number two and an opportunity to prolong the battle.
Carlos tamed his strokes nicely, especially in the opening set, keeping his composure in the second and arranging the clash against Roman Safiullin.
They served well in games four and five, and Carlos made a push on the return at 4-1. Tallon faced break points after a forehand error and hit a double fault on the second, losing serve for the second time and sending the favorite further in front.
Alcaraz served for the set at 5-1 and produced a hold at 15, wrapping up the opener in style and gathering a boost. Griekspoor held after a deuce in the first game of the second set and repeated that at 2-2 with a crafty winner at the net, remaining on the positive side.
