Andy Murray’s Wimbledon Preparations: First Grass Match and Retirement Speculation

Andy Murray will soon be back in action as he builds up to his potential final appearance at Wimbledon.

The three-time Grand Slam winner recently returned to action following an ankle injury and will now be hitting the grass courts. When is Murray playing next and will he compete in doubles at Wimbledon and play for Great Britain at the 2024 Olympic Games?

Andy Murray could be playing on grass for the final time over the next six weeks. Retirement appears to be looming for the three-time grand slam winner, who has said he is unlikely to play beyond the summer.

Murray recently returned to action following an ankle injury and will soon be on grass as he builds up to Wimbledon.

Murray was expected to defend his title at the Surbiton Trophy, starting on June 2, but he withdrew from the tournament due to a back issue.
Murray said at the French Open, where he lost in the first round, that he had been struggling with his back and was set to undergo a procedure.

Instead of Surbiton, Murray’s grass swing will now start in Stuttgart. Murray plays world No. 54 Marcos Giron in his opener in Germany on Tuesday, June 11.
Murray is then signed up to play at Queen’s and Eastbourne, although whether he competes in the latter in the week ahead of Wimbledon might depend on any previous success in Stuttgart and Queen’s.

Wimbledon starts on July 1 and Murray is ranked high enough currently to secure direct entry.
Whether Wimbledon is Murray’s last tour stop before retiring remains to be seen. Fellow three-time grand slam winner Stan Wawrinka says he thinks Murray could continue beyond this season.
